Peter Hammill
live on RTBF TV in 1979

Peter Hammill in NYC February 17th and 18th 1978

Visa Records textured handbill promoting the 4 concerts at The Other End in New York. The advert also promotes the release of Vision, a Peter Hammill compilation album from 1971 to 1974. This is pre 1979, but the 1978 US tour was a return to solo performances after many years of touring with Van der Graaf and set the trend for years to come.

Check out these wonderful pictures of Peter Hammill taken December 4th 1979 while he was performing for RTBF a Belgian TV channel. The photographs were taken by Philippe Carly and prints of various sizes can be bought here. Philippe also has many prints of other avant-garde artists of the times.

Ever

Wonder

  about Peter Hammill books?

Killers, Angels, Refugees was first published in Great Britain by Charisma Books in 1974. A second edition was later released in October of 1974. The 1974 editions featured cover art by Bob Barling and are rare gems. This is a lyric book which spans from before the VdGG days up to the Silent Corner LP. There are fables and figment toward the end which one could say are a collection of short stories. The 1980 reprint is by newly formed Sofa Sound. Actually this book has the 'honour' of being SS1, the first release. The back cover of the SS1 edition  sports a stark if not disturbing photo of Peter, done by Anton Corbijn. Unfortunately this book is long out of print and there is no imminent news of any future reprints. If you find a copy I suggest you buy it.

Mirrors, Dreams, And Miracles was published in 1982 by Sofa Sound (SS2). This book is the follow-up to Killers, Angels, Refugees and features lyrics from In Camera up to A Black Box. The book was originally a volume of short stories and was first completed as early as 1975. After the intended publishing company went out of business and many revisions, a few of the short stories do appear in the last part of the book. Again the back cover photography is by Anton Corbijn, who has photographed many musicians. I do believe that there is a photo of Peter in his book 'Famouz Photographs'.

The Lemming Chronicles
was written by David Shaw-Parker and published by Pandora's Boox. It is basically a critical appreciation of both Van der Graaf Generator and Peter Hammill but also tells the tale of two friends and their journey through the music. It is a lovely read and a definitive must for any long time VdGG / PH fan. If the name, David Shaw-Parker sounds familiar, you might have noticed his active participation on Chris Judge Smith's release: Curly's Airship, a double CD musical odyssey which features the likes of Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton, David Jackson, John Ellis, Arthur Brown... and the list goes on. The last few copies of this book are still available on his website:

Peter Hammill Canciones is a Spanish lyric book first published in 1989 by Espiral / Fundamentos. This Canciones book is number 135 in the series that also features many other renown artists, far too many to name here. The lyrics are in English as well as in Spanish and range from the 1968 single Firebrand all the way to In A Foreign Town. The book only contains a few selection from each album and isn't a 'complete works' but does have some interesting song choices. The edition shown here is the second edition released in 1998 and as far as I know is still available in Spanish book shops.

Peter Hammill in Germany and Belgium in 1985
Jean-Marie Saunier has been kind enough to submit many superb pictures taken at the Audimax University in Saarbrücken and of the Lime Light in Courtrai, Belgium. Peter was performing solo and was in middle of a hectic spring tour that brought him to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada and the U.S.A.

A few details...
Yet another Peter Hammill site. Although there are many fine Hammill sites out there, few actually deal with his solo career after the demise of Van der Graaf Generator. Over the years, and like many other avid Peter Hammill fans, I have compiled some memorabilia, and now would like to share them with other cyber fans. I wont pretend to have the biggest collection, nor will I pretend to be all knowing. Therefore I humbly request any corrections possible to make this site as accurate as can be. If I have infringed any copyrights or have made unauthorized use of personal images, please advise and I will make the proper corrections. All photos here in may be reproduced if you state the source, but please do not mass reproduce these images on other sites. All possible contributions from other fans will be posted and proper credit given. Any concert reviews, stubs or adverts people wish to submit will be added to The Agenda. I am looking for people who are willing to translate German and Italian articles so they can be posted and understood by everyone. Questions or comments are very much welcomed. Happy Trails...
