printed in the French magazine Notes.

After the disappointment regarding the cancellation of Peter Hammill's tour,
notably his stops in Vandoeuvre and Reims, we received a letter from him:
and to hide nothing from our readers, here is a reproduction of that letter.
My friends--
I must apologize... I will not be coming to France during my next tour. I
would like you to understand that the responsibility for this cancellation -
the fault - isn't mine. In brief, it was impossible for me to consider doing
these concerts after two months of uncertainties, changes, silences, late or
mysterious telexes, I have no confidence in the promoter. After fifteen
years, I need a certain amount of Professionalism with the arrangements. I
offer my regrets and hope that I can come soon. Finally, please transmit
this message to all those who you know that are disappointed by my absence.
Please be lenient regarding my French!!
