Hi Pals!

Bet some of you didn't expect to see this eh, Pilgrims 41? I was told that Pil40 exuded an air of gloom and despondency, so we'll to make one a bit more up-beat.
The plan is for this issue to appear along with Pil42 (though this will be after the tour). If you only receive this one, then your subscription will be up and if you wish to receive the 42nd instalment of this nonsense, then send a cheque for £1.50 made out to Fred Tomsett or Oedipus Recs (not Pilgrims) to the above address. This is a UK only price: foreign readers please email me to sort out payment details. Does the fact that a few more Grimpils have appeared mean that we will be turning them out a bit more regularly than over the past few years? With the rise and resistible rise of the internet, this seems a gnat's unlikely. The major reason for producing a couple of new issues are a) there is an i
mminent tour and it will give me something new to sell; and b) it reduces the large amount of money I owe to subscribers for pre-paid issues. Of course, as it is four years since the last Grimpils, there is a good chance many of you have moved without letting me know, assuming that the holy fanzine has bitten the big one. I hope you left forwarding address...

PILGRIMS Back Issues!

If for some reason this is the first issue of the fanzine that you have seen, then you may like to know that all previous issues are still available. Quite a lot of them, especially the earliest ones are in the form of photocopied reprints, but there are still original versions of 8, 16-19, 21-22, 24-25, 28-40.

Single issues cost £1.50 to the UK; £2 to Europe and £2.50 for the rest of the world. Ten issues will be £14/£18/£23 dependant on where you live. 20 issues £26/£35/£45; or you can have all 40 for £48/£65/£85. Cheques made out to Fred Tomsett or Oedipus Recs please. Folk from outside the UK, please email us to sort out some sort of payment route. While we still can't accept credit cards, I do have a Paypal account! Uk inhabitants should continue to send cheques or postal orders.

D
ome of Discovery
by Chris Judge Smith

Judge's first 'real' solo album is as punk orchestral album as you're likely to hear this year! Still the same sort of quirky songs as featured on 'Democrazy' but scored for a band of four trumpets, four driving cellos, choir, Duanne Eddy-type guitar, and a rythme section from a cajun band, with a soprano for good measure. Villainy, the recession, paranoia and sex are a few of the topics covered. 'The oddest record we've heard recently' (Making Music) OEDIPUS RECS (THEEBSOO3)

The Lemming Chronicles

by David Shaw Parker

Firstly, 'The Lemming Chronicles' is a critical appreciation of the music, concerts, and recordings of Peter Hammill and the rock group Van der Graaf Generator from 1969 until 1993. Secondly,it is an account of two friends who grew up with the music of the mid- and late- 1960s and in whose lives the music of Peter Hammill and Van der Graaf Generator continue to hold progressive significance. In 1971, Van der Graaf Generator released a song called 'Lemmings (including Cog)', an encouragement by allegory to young people to look to a more positive future rather than blindly follow a mass migration to ultimate destruction. Since the author of these chronicles was one such 'Lemming', it follows that his best friend chould be called 'Cog'. Pandoras Boox 1995

The House Is I
by Dagmar Klein

'The Fall Of The House Of Usher', the Edgar Allan Poe short story, was first published in 1839. 'The Fall Of The House Of Usher', the opera by Peter Hammill & Judge Smith, some twenty years in the writing, followed it in 1991. In 'The House Is I', Dagmar Klein retraces the contours of both houses. Be prepared to find some grotesques, a self-respecting vampire, certain low and indefinite sounds, Cleopatra's nose, a word from Mr Debussy, mind-bending drugs, a couple of leitmotifs... and a detailed examination of 'The Fall Of The House Of Usher'. Pandoras Boox 1998
